CHRISTMAS MYSTERIES FROM THE STRAND MAGAZINE
Signed and Numbered Collector’s Edition—Only 50 Copies
Christmas has always cast a long shadow.
In the gaslit pages of The Strand Magazine, the season brought more than warm fires, festive gatherings and snow-covered streets. It brought stolen jewels, midnight visitors, inexplicable deaths, haunted journeys and crimes committed beneath the holly and mistletoe.
This handsome collection gathers ten Christmas tales of mystery, crime, suspense and the supernatural originally published in The Strand between 1892 and 1909. Arthur Conan Doyle’s celebrated Sherlock Holmes adventure “The Blue Carbuncle” appears alongside eerie and long-neglected stories by Sarah Bernhardt, Arnold Bennett, J. S. Fletcher, L. T. Meade, Robert Eustace, Max Pemberton, Florence Warden and others.
Among these pages, a cursed idol awaits its next victim on Christmas Eve; a white glove becomes the crucial clue in a poisoning; a passenger vanishes aboard a holiday train; a strange letter arrives from beyond the grave; and Sherlock Holmes investigates the peculiar history of a battered hat, a Christmas goose and a priceless blue jewel.
The collection is accompanied throughout by period illustrations from the original magazine and features a specially commissioned illustration by acclaimed artist Jeff McKeever.
This exceptionally limited collector’s edition is signed by Andrew F. Gulli, managing editor of The Strand Magazine, and individually numbered 1 of 50 through 50 of 50. Only 50 signed copies will be produced.
