It’s the holiday season for ghosts, small town rivalries, Holmes on the hunt, and suspense in Amish country…
In the spirit of the season where ghosts stories are read around the fire, we present Joe Giordano’s “Second Shoe” a ghostly tale involving an alcohol-fueled accident, blackmail, and murder. Also right for the season, Carla Kaessinger Coupe gives us a fresh take on a Conan Doyle classic, piecing together an intricate back-story in “The Adventure of the Engaging Maid.” Meanwhile, Meg Gardiner, of Evan Delaney fame, serves up a heaping helping of small-town rivalries, murder, and mayhem when a cop returns to her roots in “Sweet Deal.” And the ever-prolific John Floyd puts a new spin on hard-boiled noir, introducing PI Tom Langford in “Sentry” as he rakes the case of an old goon seemingly gone straight.
For the last twelve years, Linda Castillo has delighted us with her immensely popular series of suspenseful thrillers featuring police chief Kaye Burkholder. Set in the middle of Ohio’s Amish country, the books have done much co dispel the stereotypes surrounding this community. Rapid plots, multi-dimensional characters, and vivid bur realistic settings have earned Castillo critical acclaim and a worldwide following. It was my great pleasure to interview her for this issue.
And as usual our skilled staff of book reviewers spotlights the latest mystery and thriller novels and DVDs.
