William Tell was a German drama written by Fredrich Schiller in 1804, depicting an expert mountain climber and Swiss archer during the medieval Swiss struggle for independence from the Habsburg Empire. Additionally, since its publication, the play has been translated into many different language and adapted into films. Even the national deck of cards of Hungary and Austria presents these infamous characters, reflecting the strong ties the legend harnesses worldwide.
